Premier Strings Education

Where Talent
Finds Its Voice

Riveroaks Conservatory is Houston's premier home for violin and strings education. Founded by professional musician and Teaching Artist Alexis Pelton, our conservatory was built on a single belief: that every student — regardless of age or experience — deserves world-class instruction in a nurturing, inspiring environment. Whether your child is picking up a bow for the very first time or preparing for a competitive youth orchestra audition, our master faculty deliver individualized lessons that build rock-solid technique and ignite a lifelong passion for music. Our instructors are trained at Rice University's prestigious Shepherd School of Music, bringing the highest level of musical artistry into every classroom and studio session. We offer a full suite of programs — from private violin and viola lessons and group strings ensemble to music theory, ear training, and our rigorous pre-college conservatory track. Every curriculum is personally tailored to your student's goals, pace, and learning style, ensuring consistent growth and real results. Students of Riveroaks regularly go on to perform in youth orchestras, win regional competitions, and earn placement at top music schools and universities. Beyond technique, we cultivate discipline, creativity, confidence, and the kind of deep musical understanding that stays with a student for life. Our recitals, masterclasses, and community events give students the performance experience they need to shine on any stage. At Riveroaks Conservatory, music isn't just something we teach — it's something we live, breathe, and share with the entire Houston community.

Our Story

A Legacy of Musical Excellence in River Oaks

Riveroaks Conservatory was born from a simple but powerful conviction: that exceptional strings education should be available right here in the heart of Houston, delivered by musicians who have performed on the world's greatest stages. Founded by Alexis Pelton — a professional violist, Teaching Artist with the Houston Youth Symphony, and AFM Houston member — Riveroaks opened its doors with a handpicked faculty and a mission to redefine what a local music conservatory could be.

From our very first students, we built our reputation on one thing: results. Not just technical results — though our students consistently earn seats in youth orchestras, win regional and national competitions, and gain admission to top conservatories — but human results. We develop confident performers, disciplined thinkers, and young people who carry a deep, unshakeable love of music into everything they do.

Over the years, Riveroaks has grown into one of Houston's most respected strings programs, with a faculty trained at Rice University's Shepherd School of Music and a community of over 300 students spanning every age and skill level. Our studios have seen complete beginners discover the magic of their first note, intermediate students break through plateaus they thought were permanent, and advanced musicians prepare for some of the most competitive auditions in the country.

We are proud to be part of the River Oaks community — a neighborhood that values excellence, artistry, and the pursuit of something greater. Every recital we hold, every masterclass we host, and every lesson we teach is a reflection of that shared commitment. At Riveroaks Conservatory, the story is still being written — and we'd love for your family to be part of the next chapter.

About the Founder

Meet Alexis Pelton

Born in Memphis, TN, Alexis Pelton discovered her love for strings early — picking up the viola in her elementary school strings program and never looking back. After moving to Israel as a teenager, she began intensive viola studies under the tutelage of respected pedagogue Zvi Carmeli, developing the disciplined artistry and deep musicianship that defines her teaching today.

A passionate chamber and orchestral musician, Alexis has been a fixture in the Houston arts community for years, serving as a Teaching Artist with the Houston Youth Symphony and as a proud member of the American Federation of Musicians (AFM Houston). She founded Riveroaks Conservatory to bring that same level of excellence, mentorship, and joy to students of all ages right here in Houston.
